Use a system drop down menu across multiple fields and modules

I have a field called "Industry Type". I have the same field in Deals, Contacts, and Companies. Right now, I have to key the long list into every module. That is time consuming. Is there a way to use a master drop down for each of these. Also it would be great if we could import items into drop down menus since having more than two screenfuls are difficult to sort and organize. (I have about 30 entries for industry type)
